iPad…best new toy for your bedroom???

Is there a limit to where you want technology showing up in your life?

For instance, is the bedroom somewhere you want it to go?

The reason I ask is that many people say the way they relax at the end of the day before going to sleep is to kick back in bed and…

  • …watch TV
  • …or read a book.

But are devices like the Apple iPad threatening to change all that?

Let’s talk about how tablets devices like these may change the way you end your day:

IF YOU LIKE TO READ A BOOK BEFORE GOING TO SLEEP:

A device like the iPad is likely to change your late-night reading habits.

Why?

Because even though you may start out reading a book on your iPad or tablet…

…you will be just a click or two away from your email, a YouTube video, or something you kept forgetting to Google all day long.

All this convenience adds up to distraction from the book you’ve been trying to read…

…so it’s important to ask yourself if a physical book or a boring e-reader like an Amazon Kindle might be a better choice for yourself.

IF YOU LIKE TO WATCH SOME TV OR A MOVIE BEFORE GOING TO SLEEP:

A device like the iPad is likely to change your late-night TV-watching habits.

Why?

Because devices like the iPad have small, personal-sized screens…

…and that means that you may choose to watch what you want to watch on your screen while your mate watches what he or she wants to watch on another screen.

Is that a bad thing?

No, but you may find that it brings an end to your shared end-of-the-day TV-watching ritual…

…and turns it into something that you end up doing alone every night.

IF YOU LIKE TO FALL ASLEEP WHILE THE TV DRONES ON IN THE BACKGROUND:

A device like the iPad is likely to change that late-night habit.

Why?

Because a TV droning on in the background across the room is one thing…

…but it’s going to be very different when the droning sound is coming from a device that’s now lying on the bed right next to your head, or that you keep kicking around the bed while you try to sleep.

BUT HERE’S A POSITIVE WAY TO LOOK AT DEVICES LIKE THE IPAD…

…IF SURFING THE WEB KEEPS YOU UP TOO LATE AT NIGHT:

If you often stay up too late, because you find it hard to drag yourself away from the couch or a table where you are surfing the web or watching YouTube videos on your computer…

…then the iPad may actually HELP YOU GET MORE SLEEP since it will make it easier for you to do your late-night web surfing or video-watching from bed, and that may mean you fall asleep earlier.
