A short buzz about Buzz…
A lot of people are asking me about Google’s new Facebook/Twitter kind of thing, called Buzz.
Do I use it?
No.
And here’s why:
- When I loaded it on my smartphone, the user agreement required me to agree to let Buzz publish my location information. No thanks. There may be times when I want to post and include my location, but there will certainly be times when I want to post and NOT include my location. If I get no choice, then I choose not to use Buzz.
- When I tried to use Buzz on my computer, it required me to answer some questions to fill out a profile for myself. I answered the questions I wanted to answer, but left the rest blank. When I hit “Submit,” Buzz then informed me that I had not revealed enough of my personal info to satisfy Buzz. If Buzz is going to tell me how much of my personal info I must choose to reveal, then I choose not to use Buzz.
- There have been other issues with Buzz to be concerned with, too…starting with automatically linking to your photos in Picasa and your Google Reader account.
Bottom line on Google Buzz:
Someday we may all love it…but for now, it’s best to take a pass.
